Invitation to organizations to affiliate to the Australia-Venezuela Solidarity Network
Since the 1998 victory of President Hugo Chávez, the achievements of Venezuela’s Bolivarian revolution have been inspiring millions of people around the world. Its message of hope — that there is a just alternative to the undemocratic rule of the private corporations — needs to be broadcast as widely as possible in Australia. As well, the Venezuelan people’s right to make their own social and political choices, free from outside interference, must be vigorously defended.
The Australia-Venezuela Solidarity Network is dedicated to both those goals. These and its other aims are expressed in its charter, at http://venezuelasolidarity.org/?q=node/6
The network brings together local AVSN committees in all Australian states and the ACT, and other solidarity organisations, to carry out its various activities. The AVSN holds regular discussion forums, film screenings and public information stalls. It has organised eight very successful solidarity brigades from Australia to Venezuela and toured Venezuelan activists to Australia. The AVSN is currently circulating a sign-on invitation to President Hugo Chavez to visit Australia as soon as possible.
We urge your organisation to indicate your support for Venezuela solidarity activity in Australia by affiliating to the AVSN.
Members of affiliate organisations are welcome to participate in the AVSN National Hook-ups, at which the network’s national work is discussed and decided, as well as in the local AVSN committees. The affiliation fee is $50 (small organisations) and $100 (larger organisations), and affiliates’ names will be listed on the AVSN website.
Please contact us at info@venezuelasolidarity.org if you would like more information, or to indicate your wish to affiliate to the AVSN.
We look forward to hearing from you, and to your solidarity with Venezuela’s important struggles for a new society.
