The National Union of Workers of Venezuela (UNT) backs the actions of the Australian workers in their struggle against the anti-union laws being imposed by the government of Prime Minister John Howard.
The National Union of Workers of Venezuela, the leading force for labour in Venezuela, expresses our solidarity to Australian workers in your just position of completely rejecting the law reforms to be introduced by Prime Minister John Howard in the August session of Parliament, which will worsen the pay and conditions of workers.
The law also seeks to extend the exemptions that apply to busineses with up to 20 employees, to those with up to 100 employees!
In the same vein, the UNT supports the Consejo Australiano de Sindicatos ACTU, the Union Maritima de Australia (MUA), to Western Australian Unions, and to all the unions and Australian workers as you unite in your just demand to not worsen wage policy’s under any concept.
The National Union of Workers completely backs the Pacific and Democratic Revolutionary Process which we are actually living in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, now that the workers struggle with it’s reinforcements is growing stronger in the present period, and the strength that our movement is gaining is achieving concrete gains as we obtain on behalf of the workers social, economic, educational and health benefits which under the old system of confederations and bosses unions, would have been impossible to obtain. And further, this struggle has begun to bear fruit such as the Cogestion - Partnerships Businesses – the reclaiming and reactivation of businesses which had been run down or closed.
Our own experience shows that with the union struggle is strengthened, and you can gain the unthinkable. It also shows that you can’t weaken or divide in front of the powerful interests of Capitalism, which with the power that comes from huge investments poses as the major and the best way to bring about changes to the agony and the exploitation of the worker.
We are aware of this courageous attitude of the Australian Workers to struggle and to win! We support all methods of pressure that workers apply to realise their demands, whether that be outside the Government Palace, before the Parliament or the Supreme Court of Justice – or as they mentioned, when this law is approved, then apply pressure by whatever means to make the laws unworkable – because bad laws which are detrimental to the majority should be annulled.
To the Australian Workers, the National Coordination of the National Union of Workers sends our fullest and fraternal backing for your struggle for just conditions.
